About

Pickles is a 6 year old, 12 lbs Dachshund/Chihuahua mix. He was an owner surrender to a local shelter and when he came to EARS he was a whopping 16lbs! He was a true stuffed sausage! He enlisted his foster parents to be his personal trainers, and with their help he is getting thin and trim! Pickles is missing all of his upper teeth and only has a few bottom ones left because his teeth were so rotten when he came to us. That doesn’t stop him at all though! The boy loves to eat, and he loves to kiss you all over your face. He looks so funny doing it because he opens his mouth wide to give you a kiss! The lack of teeth gives him this fabulous sophisticated profile, what you would imagine some really old sophisticated aristocrat would have. This Pic-a-licious, lengthy weenie dog mix is a chill dude around the house and loves to lounge on the sofa or in his bed. He’s a huge cuddler, especially at night before bed. He loves laying in the sun and spending time outside exploring the yard. You can really see his Dachshund side here, as he loves to chase small birds and squirrels. And boy does he have a sniffer on him! Just watching him working endless to track down all the smells is amazing; you can just see him visualizing what animal he is sniffing down. The Pickerman also loves to ride in the car and go places with his people. He is crate trained and housebroken. So, what are the things to work on with him? One, when he’s sleeping let the man be! He loves his sleep and if you disturb him early morning or when he has already put himself to bed for the night, he will growl and nip. He does not bite, it’s just his way of saying I’m sleeping you big oaf leave me be! Two, he looooooves to go for walks, and needs them to stay at his training weight, but he will sometimes get leash reactive and bark and pull at other dogs. Because of this, we require someone who will go to training class with him so he can completely overcome that. Good news is that he is super treat motivated! He does love other dogs and currently is in a house with 2 big dogs and one small dog. Pickles is just a really good chill dude and would do well as the only dog or with other dogs.

We are a RESCUE GROUP, not a shelter, and all of our animals are in foster homes. To start the adoption process, email us at [email protected] requesting an application. Submitting an application does not commit you in any way, but helps us make the best match between people and our available dogs. Your current or past dogs must be inside dogs who have been spayed/neutered and are on heartworm prevention.

All of the dogs in our program are inside dogs and are completely vetted including all vaccinations, spayed/neutered, free of internal parasites, microchipped, heartworm negative and on prevention before adoption. Our adoption process includes an application, check of vet records or personal references, interview, neutral site meet & greet with the dog and your family, and a home visit.
